How does hiring work?

FANCY DRESS HIRE
Standard hire is for 7 days. The full balance of your hire is payable upon pick up. Minimum hire is $15.00.
Photo identification and a valid credit/debit card is required.
The Wardrobe will retain credit/debit card details as a security bond. An upfront security bond may be charged and held for the duration of your hire. If the hirer is unable present a credit/debit card details, alternative arrangements (such as a cash or EFTPOS bond) may be made, at the discretion of management.
You will be provided with a copy of the hire agreement listing all items taken, return date and full Terms and Conditions.
All items must be returned with in the 7 day hire period. If not, late fees will apply.
Standard cleaning is included in your hire fee, however if the items are returned to us damaged or excessively dirty, additional fees may apply.

Please give us a call to discuss your particular needs and the best way to get all of your people fitted and looking great.

Can I reserve my costume in advance?
Costumes may be reserved up to 6 weeks in advance for a holding fee of $20.00 per costume. That holding fee is deducted from the balance of the hire upon pick up. Your holding fee is non-refundable.

What happens if I don't have photo identification or a credit/debit card?
If you are under 18 years old or otherwise unable to present the necessary identification for hiring, please call us on (02) 9417 3499 to discuss your options. A parent, friend or family member may be able to accept responsibility for your hire.
If you do not have a valid credit/debit card, an upfront cash or EFTPOS bond will most likely be required. This option is only available at the discretion of management.

Do I need to clean my costume?
No. Standard cleaning is included in your hire fee. Additional charges may be payable if the costume is deemed unusually dirty or stained.

I only need my costume for 1 day, do I still need to pay for the whole 7 days?
We work on a 7 day base rental in order to simplify the process for everyone. You are welcome to return your costumes early if that is more convenient for you. Our rates will not be reduced for shorter hires.

I need more than 7 days for my hire, can that be arranged?
If you know in advance that you will require your costume for more than our standard 7 days, we can work with you to extend your hire to 10 days, 14 days or more. Our rates will be calculated based on the costumes you are taking, the demand for individual pieces, our cleaning costs and the number of days you will be hiring for.
All other terms and conditions still apply to extended hire.

I won't be able to pick up my costume, can The Wardrobe arrange delivery?
The Wardrobe does not arrange delivery. A trusted friend or family member may pick up your costume for you, or you can organise a courier.

Do you have an After Hours Return Chute?
No, we do not. Due to the differing shapes and sizes of many items and the value of our collection, our staff will need to go through your hire with you when you return.
Please do not leave your costume outside of the building while we are closed! You will be accountable for any loss, damage or theft that occurs.

I won't be able to return my costume on time, what do I do?
If there is any problem with your return, it is always best to call us on (02) 9417 3499.
We don't mind at all if a trusted friend or family member drops the costume off to us. We do strongly suggest that your hire agreement is presented at the time of return to help the process. Your security bond details will be destroyed and any upfront security bond payment refunded as normal, provided the conditions of the hire have been met.
You may also organise for a courier to drop your costume off. In this instance, we will call you to let you know when your costume has been safely returned to us.
If the period of your hire exceeds that specified on your hire agreement, late fees will begin acruing per day.
If something unexpected happens to prevent you from returning the costume on time, please call us as soon as possible to discuss your options.

What if I lose, damage or destroy something I have hired?
While we understand that you will take every possible care with our costumes, accidents do happen. As the hirer, you are responsible for the condition of all returned Wardrobe property. If any part of your costume has been damaged, broken, lost or stolen, you will be required to pay for repair or replacement.

Are your costumes and wigs clean?
We clean and wash most items onsite in our industrial laundry. Other items are sent offsite for dry cleaning.
All of our hire wigs are thoroughly washed and cared for onsite.
If you have any concerns about headlice, please read the following information from NSW Health:
"Research suggests that bed linen, hats, clothing and furniture do not harbour or transmit lice or nits and that there is no benefit in washing them as a treatment option. Nits and lice only live on the human head. They quickly dehydrate and die if removed from the head."

Do you have children's costumes?
Not really. As we are mainly focused on theatrical and historical clothing, we do not have much of a selection for your little ones. Please give us a call on (02) 9417 3499 if you have any questions.

I love this outfit so much! Would you ever consider selling it?
The short answer is: no, sorry!
We love it too! That's why we've invested the time and effort involved in caring for and storing so many of our unique and vintage items. If we were to start selling the items in our collection to adoring customers, it would quickly become a very small collection. Many items are essentially irreplaceable and no amount of money would ever be able to compensate us for their value.
You are always welcome to come and hire your favourite Wardrobe items again!
